THE IMPORTANCE OF HANUKKAH
It was during Hanukkah, the feast mentioned in John 10:22 as the feast of dedication, that the Maccabees rededicated the temple.
This festival is a time to draw inspiration from the Maccabees and their friends who fiercely resisted the status quo of their day. They were not content to sit and watch on the sidelines as all they held dear remained desecrated. They were willing to give everything to see God receive His due glory.
The upheaval that we have witnessed over the past year calls for a radical response. We must be those who press into the presence of God and reflect His light to the world around us. As we remember the Maccabees during the week of Hanukkah this year we pray that our hearts will be rekindled with the flame of zeal as we rededicate our lives on the altar of worship. We will spend quality time singing the scriptures and meditating on the majesty of God. He makes His ministers a flame of fire! (Ps 104:4) As we minister to God we trust that He will fan the flame of passion within us!
